The campus garden at St Catherine’s displayed a rich variety of greens in the trees and grass in contrast to the dark brown of the water in the pond. A single pale mauve evergreen provides a minor focal point.

This austere bridge, seen here from below in bright morning light, provided a striking contrast to the surrounding vegetation. But the dark lines and abstracted shapes of the same trees and bushes seemed to unify the painting’s composition.
